Initiated in 2003 by Women's Business Boston, the Professional and Woman's Business Journal, the Top 10 Coach award is an annual event created by Women's Business to recognize outstanding area coaches identified by their clients as having had a significant impact on their personal growth and professional success.

Each year, Women's Business requests nominations through advertisements in their monthly journal and an email blast to subscribers and other contacts. Those coaches receiving the greatest number of recommendations are named to the list. In cases where coaches tie in the number of recommendations received, the selection is made based upon the qualitative content of those nominations.
